The Lello Bookstore
The Lello Bookstore in Porto is considered the most beautiful bookstore in the world. I don’t know, I haven’t been to all of them, but I must admit that the atmosphere inside is unique. And a lot of people seem to agree with me because if you want to visit this bookstore during the season, you not only have to book a date but also buy an entrance ticket online. There are so many visitors in the season! The fact is, you can deduct the few euros for the ticket from the cost of purchasing books, but still, the entrance fee and booking a date is quite a unique thing.
J.K. Rowling sought inspiration in Lello while writing Harry Potter. Indeed, those stairs do seem Potter-like, don’t they? However, Harry doesn’t really excite me. Instead of Rowling’s novels, I found Tokarska and Miłosz. It’s nice that the works of our Nobel laureates were on the shelves of this unique bookstore.
But hey, maybe some writer would like to seek inspiration in my apartment too? I wouldn’t mind if in the future there were queues to pay 8 EUR for entry. Although I don’t have red stairs, I do have, for example, a desk where I’m writing this post… ;)
